Bilderbuch – Baby Junkie

simple yet bitter truth: you can have everything and still possess nothing.

“Baby Junkie” moves between melancholy, nihilism and optimism, between a feeling of abundance and the realization that none of it can be held on to. This tension is precisely where the beauty of the song lies: between a lust for life and transience, between what remains and what inevitably gets lost. Calmly and almost in passing, it tells of fading beauty and the traces left behind by time. Even lines such as “You used to look good / But now you look like a shithouse” carry the characteristic Bilderbuch mix: laconic, charming and delivered with a certain smile.

For the music video for “Baby Junkie”, Ernst travelled to Morocco together with renowned photographer Luis Sanchis, who has worked with artists including Courtney Love, Madonna, Daft Punk and Leonardo DiCaprio. The footage created there plays with surreal imagery and changing light conditions, echoing the atmosphere of the song. “Baby Junkie” is Bilderbuch’s next commentary — or simply their next observation of time, another facet of our now, of ∞.
