SMILE – Doohickey

Smile is a post-punk band with a singer, who prefers not to sing.  Instead she intones her poetic stories spiked with personal reflections.  With her first single “Doohickey”, singer Rubee rummages in her memory, visits her deceased grandmother, an unkind old woman who hoarded what she found in her house. This creates a short story about the weirdest person alive and shows SMILE as a band in which lyrics and music do not compete but always celebrate symbiosis. The guitars and rhythm section are as snappy and fast-paced as the narrated life, finding their way to a logical dynamic without using cheap sing-alongs.
