Mela – Islands

MELA are back with a brand new single that sets new accents in familiar territory: Islands. After their second LP “Sometimes What Heart Knows, Head Forgets” (2023), the band from Vienna presents a song that captures the essence of MELA. The sound is characterized by cosmic guitar cascades on the undulating bed of a fat bass synth, with a French horn-like synthesizer bouncing on top. The basic mood of vulnerability is again and again interrupted by a lucid yet fragile optimism.

Founded as a duo by Simon Bauer and Marius Grimminger, MELA have been an integral part of the Viennese indie scene since 2016. Known for their characteristic blend of dreampop and postpunk, the band has released two EPs and two albums since their formation. After numerous concerts in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic, the band has continuously developed its sound. Philipp Seefried recently joined the band as a new member, bringing fresh impulses to the band’s creative process on bass and synth bass.
