Leyya – I Don’t Hug So Well
“Hey, what’s going on?” – a question often not easily answered opens the introspective focus track “I Don’t Hug So Well” of Leyya’s double-release, which deals with the rules of interpersonal relationships, especially those in friendships. It arrives as another sneak peek just before their 3rd album “Half Asleep” drops on AUG 30. In it, singer and lyricist Sophie deals with social awkwardness and asks in a hushed, lowered voice: Do we hug or do we shake hands? What is the framework? The Indie-Pop song’s ethereal sound and its dreamy melodies feature an acoustic guitar, shimmering synthesizers and airy vocals.
In the bittersweet “What Did I Do Wrong”, the second track that comes within this release, Sophie is questioning her actions and introspection about a relationship that has changed over time:
Self-reflection as a consequence of inner turbulence defines the album Half Asleep; the process of recognizing and gaining awareness of one’s own position on the inside and outside runs through the album like a common thread. Half Asleep asks for conditions and more specifically: “Do I actually want this?”, putting one’s own body in relation to others (bodies, realities, rules).
