Jo The Man The Music – Rocket Science

I don’t have to reinvent music, but I can reinvent what music is for me,” Jo The Man The Music recently said in an Interview. The 24-year-old‘s self-reinvention is a journey of finding her very own sound and has brought forth a debut EP called “Soft Skin“

“Soft Skin” makes life tangible. Like ice-cold water on just your toes, a soft blanket around your shoulders, like a scratch on your skin or a tingle on your lips. The EP is an attempt to remain sensitive and resilient in a world that sharpens its edges day by day. In eight songs, Jo tells the story of a protagonist driven by her inevitable intuition. One who, even when driven by fear (“Better at their shit”), puts one foot in front of the other, always one step ahead of her comfort zone (“Skinny Dipping”). One who creates her own path instead of looking for tracks to follow. One who, between vulnerability and shrugging her shoulders, has learned to enjoy the chaos that’s coming of age (“To Be Sexy”).

Amidst dreamy whispers and defiant hooks, Jo’s sensitive melodies meet crashing rock guitars, bird sounds, and clarinet. Like a warm breath in the freezing winter air.

The focus track “Rocket Science” is a sweet-sour mix of feeling youthfully reckless and stuck in adult rationalities at the same time. Right in between self-doubt and optimism, Jo The Man The Music makes absurdly apt comparisons and reminds us not to take life

too seriously. “Baby, it’s not rocket science.”
