IKAN HYU – Side fx
‘Side fx’ is the first single of IKAN HYU’s second album and marks the beginning of a new cycle – in bright red and pink.”At first, I thought of a specific situation when I wrote ‘side fx’”, says Anisa about the creation of the song. “Over time, however, I realized that ‘side fx’ embodies a broader sentiment about life – the feeling of loneliness, even if you are not alone. The feeling of being isolated from the people who are actually closest to you.”
This tension between intimacy and distance is is also audible in the sound: ‘Side fx’ is playful and has drive, and at the same time is characterized by a melancholy that resonates throughout the song.Like most songs on the new album, ‘side fx’ was recorded in Vienna and reflects IKAN HYU’s DIY mentality. The cover was drawn by Hannah, all instruments were played by the duo themselves, and a walkie-talkie is used as a microphone – a style element that will also be present in other songs on the album. Lightness and heaviness, hope and helplessness – ‚side fx’ embodies exactly what the duo is all about: when things clash, IKAN HYU flourishes.
